Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G Lens

Dynamic Perspectives and Smooth Bokeh at 16 mm

With a 16 mm angle of view and F1.8 aperture, the FE 16mm F1.8 G captures wide-angle imagery with gorgeous background bokeh. This expressive prime G Lens is ideal for scenery, architecture, starry skies, and more. It also offers outstanding close-up capability and precise, quiet autofocus. The FE 16mm F1.8 G accepts standard 67 mm filters, is compact and lightweight, and is easy to balance on a gimbal.

Outstanding Resolution at Ultra-Wide 16 mm Angles

Two AA (Advanced Aspherical) lens elements minimise field curvature and astigmatism for stunning image-wide resolution at all apertures. One Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element and three ED elements suppress chromatic aberration, while an optimised coating minimises flare and ghosting. This is an ideal lens for creating spectacular wide-angle images.

The Beauty of G Lens Bokeh at F1.8

When beautiful bokeh is the goal, this G Lens delivers with its large F1.8 maximum aperture, 11-blade circular aperture mechanism, and carefully controlled spherical aberration.

Eye-Opening Close-Up Performance

Close-up performance is excellent, with a minimum focus distance of 0.15 m (0.5 ft) and maximum magnification of 0.25x when using autofocus (0.13 m, 0.30x for manual focus). The ability to get that close with an ultra-wide lens makes it possible to capture dynamic perspectives with deep, exquisite bokeh.

Large-Aperture Ultra-Wide Performance in a Compact Lens

Aspherical lens elements, including Sony's high-precision AA (Advanced Aspherical) lens, result in a full-frame ultra-wide lens that measures 73.8 x 75 mm and weighs just 0.304 kg. It is compact, lightweight, and mobile while delivering spectacular imaging performance for a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, architecture, and night scenes.

Fast, Precise Autofocus for High-Level Imaging

Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors ensure fast, precise autofocus and tracking. A dedicated control algorithm enhances response with minimal delay and vibration, ensuring that the lens's large focus group moves smoothly and quietly. This makes it easier to capture key moments when shooting active, fast-moving subjects.

Refined, Stable Performance for Movies

Focus breathing is controlled to minimise angle-of-view shifts, ensuring smooth video footage. The lens accepts 67 mm filters and is compact, lightweight, and easy to balance on a gimbal.

Comprehensive Control and Solid Reliability

In addition to the normal focus hold function, other functions can be assigned to the focus hold button via the camera controls. A focus mode switch on the lens barrel allows quick switching between autofocus and manual focus without taking your eye off the viewfinder.

Natural Linear Manual Focus Response

Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle manual adjustments. Focus ring rotation translates instantly to a corresponding focus change for precise control.

Aperture Ring with Click ON/OFF Switch

An aperture ring provides quick, manual aperture control. The click ON/OFF switch allows tactile feedback when shooting stills or smooth, silent aperture adjustment for video.

Iris Lock Prevents Unwanted Aperture Changes

An iris lock switch prevents accidental aperture adjustments. When locked, the aperture remains at the [A] position or can be freely adjusted between manual settings.

Extra Reliability for Outdoor Shooting

A dust- and moisture-resistant design enhances reliability in outdoor conditions. The front element features a fluorine coating to repel contaminants and make cleaning easier.

Sony's Commitment to Sustainability

Sony's environmental plan, "Road to Zero," aims for a zero environmental footprint by 2050. This product's impact has been minimised across development, supply chain, production, and packaging. Sony is transitioning to non-plastic packaging materials, with plant-based non-woven fabrics used for product bags.
