Exmor R Image Sensor

A redeveloped 1/2.5 type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS Sensor features bigger pixels – up to 1.6 times – and better sensitivity performance than its predecessors to provide you with noise free shadows and better detail allowing exceptional performance even in those environments with varied and challenging light conditions.

20x Optical Zoom

The improved Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T wide angle zoom lens now features an impressive 26.8mm (16:9) at the wide end and 536mm of reach in 35mm equivalent. The clear image zoom further expands the zoom to 40x for HD videos and to 30x for 4k videos. The added Advanced Aspherical (AA) lens element means the AX53 is not only more faithful in its rendition but is also more compact for its class. Combined with its 20x zoom range the range of subjects you can capture is limited only by your imagination.

Balanced Steady Shot

The AX-53 Handycam features Sony’s unique Balanced Optical Steady Shot which intelligently compensates for shake and vibrations while recording hand held and gives silky smooth output for your videos. Additionally, enable Active Mode with 5 axis image stabilization when using AVCHD and your HD videos will have a stable, Steadicam-like output even while running with the camera.

Fast and Intuitive Auto-Focus

A rapid contrast AF system and an improved AF algorithm combined with advanced predictive ability readily locks onto your subject to continuously keep them in focus even while moving. Never miss a moment again and have your subjects focussed in no time.

5.1 Channel Sound

The in-built microphone of the camera records Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound allows you to realistically capture your environment and immerse your audience in natural audio. An improved sound chamber reduces the noise levels up to 40 percent more than previous generations and ensures clearer sound. For even more customisation the AX-53 features a stereo mini jack so you have the freedom of using your own choice of mic.

My Voice Cancelling

The ‘My Voice Cancelling’ feature is a great advantage when you need to command your subject or simply cheer them on. It can differentiate between near and far voice sources to suppress the recorders voice so it doesn’t overpower the final output.

Advanced Manual Controls

The Sony AX-53 Handycam goes a step beyond to create an opportunity for you to work like a professional and be in complete control. Immerse yourself in the full colour 0.24" OLED electronic viewfinder or use the tactile manual control ring around the lens and an easy access manual button to intuitively adjust either the zoom, focus, exposure, iris, shutter speed, exposure, or white balance.

A Timecode and User Bit function records information such as date, time, scene number, etc. in eight-digit arbitrary numbers to help identify your footage while editing.

Dual Recording Formats

Record in two different file formats simultaneously; MP4 and AVCHD or MP4 and XAVC S for the best of both worlds. This means you’ll have a smaller, more readily shareable file for your social media activity and a more professional file for when you’re ready for further editing or viewing in full quality.

Xtra Fine LCD with WhiteMagic

The 3 inch 921K dot high resolution touch enabled LCD has added white pixels in addition to the regular RGB for a bright and sharp display even in bright light conditions. Functions can be controlled intuitively from the LCD making operating the camera easier.

Wireless Control and Versatility

With built in Wi-Fi, control your AX-53 remotely or transfer files to your smart device for sharing using the Sony App. Preview footage from multiple synced compatible Sony Handycams on your smartphone or tablet to find the perfect angle or use Sony’s Live Streaming via USTREAM to simply record and share the event in real time.

NFC allows even quicker pairing and one touch sharing and control with Sony’s ‘Play Memories’ app . Additionally, use your tablet or smart device as a remote viewfinder or simply instantly share photos and footage on your social media stream.

Highlight Movie maker

The Highlight movie maker allows you to intelligently select and tag scenes based on features such as smile detection, zoom motion and other manual selections. These can be combined into one continuous track using scene transitions and available music options in the Sony app to give you amazing movies and montages with a creative edge.

The MI (Multi Interface) Accessory shoe supports a wide range of accessories.
