Inside the lens are 22 optical elements arranged in 17 groups, capable the incredibly high resolving power that makes the lens a perfect match for high resolution sensors. Astigmatism is corrected with the use of an aspherical element and two Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion (UED) elements combine with three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements to ensure chromatic aberrations are controlled.

At the end of the lens is a manual focus ring with a clutch control design that allows shooters to seamlessly and easily switch between auto and manual focus in seconds. When in the MF mode, the lens displays focus measurements and can even have the throw adjusted, on the camera.
