Updated 20.3 Megapixel Sensor
The Panasonic GH5 is a worthy successor to the award winning GH4 mirrorless camera. Built for professionals and serious enthusiasts, its updated 20.3 megapixel sensor delivers 4K video recording @ 60fps and Full HD @ 180fps. Looking for an uncompromising photo and video powerhouse? This is it.
Low Pass Filter Eliminated
Equipped with a re-engineered 20 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor, the GH5 offers a significantly improved level of detail over the GH4. The removal of the Low Pass Filter ensures it delivers the highest-ever picture quality ever in the Lumix range, producing outstanding low-light performance and impressive dynamic range for both photo and video capture. Additionally, video footage is now captured without cropping, ensuring the entire 20 megapixel sensor is utilised to deliver as much image information as possible.
5-Axis In-Camera Stabilisation
5-Axis In-body Image Stabilisation has also been added to the GH5's arsenal to deliver improved sharpness when shooting with slow shutter speeds or long range telephoto lenses. The 5-axis stabilised design can be combined with selected image stabilised Lumix lenses (lens firmware update may be required) to deliver 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 compensation. Providing an advantage of 5-stops at a focal range of up to 280mm (35mm equivalent) Dual I.S. 2 combines gyroscopic data from the camera body and lens to ensure your photos are razor sharp and your videos are silky smooth.
4K @ 60fps & Full HD @ 180fps
An updated Venus Engine image processor sees substantial improvements in the sheer computational power of the camera. The GH5 offers 4K 60fps video recording for exceptional image quality and creative versatility. It will also shoot Full HD videos at up to an incredible 180fps, equipping you with the ability to slow down ultra-fast motion while retaining an impressive level of clarity and detail.
10bit 4:2:2 Recording In-Camera
For serious filmmakers the capability of the processor also delivers 4K 10bit 4:2:2 recording at 30p directly to your SD card. Previously requiring the DMW-YAGH interface unit and an external hard disk or SSD recorder, the GH5 now achieves the same cinematic quality footage in-camera, offering impressive colour grading capabilities to seasoned broadcast professionals and budget filmmakers alike.
Dual UHS-II U3 SD Card Slots
Dual SD memory card slots have been added to satisfy the demands of professional shooters. Both slots feature an uncompromising UHS-II U3 rating to support the fastest, largest capacity SD cards on the market today. The slots can be customised according to your specific shooting requirements. These configurations include support for relay recording which allows you to seamlessly record and hot swap from one card to another, backup recording which records to both slots simultaneously or allocation recording which enables you to allocate what file types are saved to which card. For example, you can save your RAW image files to slot 1 and JPGs and Videos to Slot 2.
Unlimited Recording Time
The new dual SD card design is complemented by unlimited recording time in all video settings. Perfect for professional videographers, the GH5 does not cut files at 29 minutes and 59 seconds. It will continue to record as long as your memory card has capacity, ensuring you never have to miss a moment during a speech or ceremony.
Push/Pull Focus Effects
Getting professional quality footage is made easy thanks to a raft of built-in recording aids. The innovative Focus Transition function allows you quickly and consistently achieve professional focus pull effects for up to 3 focal points. Simply define up to 3 points along your focal plane then hit start and the camera will begin recording and smoothly transition between your selected points. Fine-tune the effect by adjusting the transition speed and defining the waiting time between each focus position.
Improved Shooting Aids
Other features include hue adjustment in the photo style shooting mode, cinelike gamma, colour bars and a 1kHz test tone, mater pedestal level, synchro scan, zebra pattern, focus peaking, wave or vector form monitoring, centre marker and much more.
Full-Size HDMI Port
A full-size HDMI Type-A interface replaces the previous Type-D port of the GH4. Used much more commonly in professional video production devices, the Type-A port eliminates the need for cumbersome adapters to output your recording to an external monitor.
Wind Cancelling Internal Microphone
The internal microphone has also been overhauled with a redesigned wind noise cancellation and sound synthesis system that delivers up to 25dB of wind suppression. The built-in microphone also features a new interior noise suppression processor that minimises interior noise while improving interior noise cancellation.
DMW-XLR1 Microphone Adapter
For professional audio requirements, the optional DMW-XLR1 microphone adapter can be attached to the hot shoe of the GH5 to offer two XLR jacks to your production. The interface unit delivers high resolution sound recording in 96kHz/24bit and offers independent control of levels, gain and low-cut settings for each channel separately. Powered by the hot shoe connector the microphone adapter adds impressive audio recording flexibility without compromising on the portability of your shooting kit.
Photography Powerhouse
Photographers will also find substantial improvements in the GH5. The immense processing power used to capture video has been leveraged to ensure you are equally well equipped to handle virtually any photographic scenario thrown your way.
Bright, Detail Rich Results
The updated 20.3 megapixel sensor combined with the elimination of the Low Pass Filter from the sensor design delivers vivid, high resolution stills with impressive colour moiré suppression and rich three-dimensional colours.
12fps Burst Mode with 100+ RAW Image Buffer
Continuous burst mode shooting at 12fps with single focus or 9fps with continuous focus now supports full resolution RAW capture for 100+ continuous images, ensuring you don't have to sacrifice shooting in JPEG format when trying to capture a fast motion subject, or a decisive moment in time.
4K & 6K Photo Modes
The framerate of the 4K photo mode which was pioneered by the GH4 has doubled, and is now capable of recording at 60fps. Additionally, a 6K photo mode has been introduced, enabling you to pull an 18 megapixel still from a 30fps clip, offering improved editing leeway and options to print images as large as 11x14" without quality loss.
Post Focus Mode
A Post Focus mode is also available to give you the power to decide the focal point of the photo after the shot has been taken. Simply shoot the scene with post focus enabled then use the touch screen to pinpoint the exact part of the image that you want to look sharp. The camera will determine the sharpest frame and extract an 18 megapixel still image as a JPG.
Focus Stacking In-Camera
Focus stacking in-camera has also been added to the GH5. Perfect for macro shooters, it can combine one or more post-focus images into a single composition, enabling you to choose multiple points of focus and combine them into a single ultra-detailed JPG.
Hybrid Autofocus System
Autofocus performance has also been upgraded using an advanced Hybrid focusing system which combines traditional contrast detection AF with depth from de-focus technology to offer focus lock in as little as 0.05 seconds. This design delivers impressive focusing performance when tracking a moving subject by using distance data and contrast AF to calculate the best focus position, resulting in more usable images when shooting in the 4K or 6K photo modes.
225 AF Points
Additionally, the number of focus points has been significantly increased from 49 to 225, spanning the entire frame. This versatility enables you to define one or multiple areas for focus ensuring your compositions are not limited compromised by your available focus points. A new joystick on the rear of the camera ensures selecting a focus point or a focus area is fast and intuitive, allowing you to adjust focus without looking away from the viewfinder.
Large 3.2-inch LCD Screen
The rear of the camera houses a larger 3.2-inch 1.6 million-dot flip-out touch screen LCD. Usable in all types of lighting conditions, the GH5 also features an improved 3.6 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder that is perfect for extremely bright daytime shooting and critical focusing requirements.
Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Connectivity
Expand your creative potential with lightning fast 5GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity. The convenient Bluetooth v4.2 BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) compatibility enables the camera to remain conveniently connected to your smart device without sacrificing battery life.
Wireless Remote Camera Control
The wireless connection can be combined with the Panasonic Image App to remotely control the camera and shooting functions from your phone or tablet. You can also configure the camera to automatically transfer images to your smart device, or copy camera settings and preferences from one GH5 to another - perfect for users who shoot on multiple camera bodies.
Weather Sealed, Freeze Proof Construction
Built for seasoned professional photographers and filmmakers, the camera features an updated magnesium alloy designed body that is weather sealed for dust and moisture. For improved shooting versatility on-location, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 mirrorless camera has been upgraded with a freeze proof rating of -10°C giving you additional confidence that you're equipped to capture virtually anything that life can throw at you.
