APS-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor

The Fujifilm X70 features a 16.3 Megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor II. The X-Trans CMOS sensor design eliminates the optical low-pass filter (OLPF) and integrates a colour filter array that lets the sensor capture unfiltered light from the lens. This unique design delivers an unprecedented level of resolution and clarity, rivalling the performance larger sensors and more expensive cameras. The X-Trans CMOS Sensor II coupled to an EXR Processor II not only delivers high resolution and high quality images at high speeds but also accelerates the camera’s operational response providing an ultra-fast auto-focus, a start-up time and shooting interval of 0.5 seconds, and a shutter time lag of 0.01 seconds. The processor also delivers highly effective noise reduction allows shooting at up to ISO51200 for incredible performance in low light conditions.

Fujinon 18.5mm f/2.8 Lens with Lens Modulation Optimiser

The X70 is equipped with a 28mm equivalent Fujinon 18.5mm wide-angle fixed lens ensuring an impressive field of view. The lens has an aperture range of f/2.8-16 and can focus as close as 10 cm for macro-style detail. Comprising of seven elements in five groups, including two aspherical elements, the lens delivers ultra-sharp, detail rich results with exceptional colour reproduction.

Complementing the exceptional lens build quality, Fujinon's unique HT-EBC coating on the lens helps reduce flare and ghosting, further improving image contrast, clarity and overall colour accuracy.

A unique Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) image processing technology integrated into the lens system corrects diffraction blur resulting in outstanding sharpness distributed across the entire frame.

Digital Tele-Converter

The prime lens is supplemented by a Digital Tele-Converter allowing 35mm and 50mm equivalent focal lengths in addition to the 28mm angle of view. Settings for the Digital Tele-converter can be accessed from the menu, or through the control ring on the lens barrel allowing previewing the image on the LCD before shooting.

Ultra-Fast Electronic Shutter

In addition to a 1/4000 seconds mechanical shutter, the camera also features an electronic shutter of up to 1/32000 seconds, perfect for freezing extremely fast action or shooting with a wide-open aperture in bright light. The electronic shutter can also be utilised and for discreet shooting with a silent shutter.

Intelligent Hybrid AF

Working in tandem with the advanced X-Trans sensor and the EXR Processor II, a Phase Detection AF system delivers autofocusing speeds as fast as 0.1 seconds, never letting you lose a precious moment, while Contrast AF provides accurate focusing in low light. Depending upon the scene and conditions, the X70’s Intelligent Hybrid AF system automatically switches between Phase Detection and Contrast AF to deliver ultra-fast and precise focusing under all scenarios.

The AF system can be configured to capture a wide variety of shooting scenarios. With either 49 points in Single Point mode- ideal for quick and precise focusing, or 77 points in the Zone and Wide/Tracking mode, you can be sure your subject is in focus, no matter where you position them within the frame.

Subject Motion Prediction technology helps the AF system predict and follow moving subjects through the frame. Combined with continuous shooting of up to 8.0 fps it's easy to capture razor sharp images of subjects in motion.

The camera also features an accurate Face and Eye Detection AF and an AF mode optimized for portrait photography and selfies.

Camera Design and Controls

Despite packing an APS-C sized sensor, the X70 remains compact in size while maintaining the classic Fujifilm aesthetic. The camera features milled aluminium dials and control rings for an enhanced tactile experience and premium look. Manual controls enable quick and easy access to aperture, shutter speed and a range of custom functions.

An Auto Mode selector lever on the top plate switches the camera to the Fuji X70’s Advanced SR Auto mode for automatic selection of optimal settings from 54 pre-programmed scenes. A built-in super intelligent flash is supplemented by a hot shoe for attaching an optional external flash. A large rubberised handgrip provides comfortable ergonomics.

Articulating Touchscreen

A large 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen flips 180° allowing you to shoot from high and low angles for better image composition. Flipping the screen a full 180° to the front allows taking impressive selfies with the wide angle lens designed to capture perfect portraits with a wide panorama in the background. The articulating design also helps screen adjustment to avoid glare.

The touchscreen provides a rich intuitive experience during shooting and playback. A “Touch to Focus” function allows selecting a precise focus area on the screen while the “Touch to Shoot” allows instantly capturing the moment with a tap on the screen. During playback the screen allows functions such as swipe to scroll between photos, double-tap to enlarge an image, pinch to zoom-in or zoom-out.

Built-in Wi-Fi

The integrated Wi-Fi feature in the X70 opens up a plethora of creative features. Using the Fujifilm Camera Remote App, the camera can be remotely operated through a Wi-Fi connected smartphone or tablet. Captured images can be geo-tagged, viewed and transferred to the smartphone for instant sharing and uploading on social media, transferred and stored on a PC, and can be instantly printed on Fulifilm Instax Share printer.

Shooting Modes

• Film Simulation allows the X70 to recreate the colours and tones of Fujifilm’s classic photographic films including the Classic Chrome mode with muted tones and deep colours.
• Full HD Movie Recording allows recording 1080p Full HD video at up to 60 fps with the option of changing aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation while shooting a movie.
• Multiple Exposure allows superimposing a second image over a previously captured image for creative effects.
• Image Bracketing allows three bracketed images to be captured in a single release of the shutter. The bracketing mode allows ISO sensitivity, exposure, white balance, dynamic range, film simulation and AE bracketing.
• Interval Timer shooting allows configuring self-timer and time lapse shooting.
• Panorama Mode allows in-camera creation of wide panoramas with horizontal or vertical panning options.
