Compact Macro Lens for Canon EOS M Series
The Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is the perfect choice for photographers who want an ultra-lightweight and compact autofocus macro lens for their Canon EOS M series mirrorless cameras.
Super Macro Mode
The lens features a Super Macro Mode with up to 1.2x magnification of the subject. With a closest focusing distance of 93mm, the Super Macro Mode allows ultra close-up shots of flowers, insects, food and common everyday objects with extremely minute details.
Built-in Macro Light
Surrounding the front element of the lens is a two-segment “Macro Lite” that opens up a range of illuminating possibilities. The two curved LED flash lights can be fired either simultaneously, or one at a time, and can be set to varying brightness levels for a better sense of depth and dimension. The macro light allows you to appropriately illuminate close-up subjects and reveal minute details, freeze motion and enhance colour accuracy.
Flexible Image Capturing – Macro to Infinity
The lens is capable of focusing all the way from macro to infinity, allowing you to use it as a standard lens for non-macro normal photography. When used with an EOS M-series camera with an APS-C sensor, the 28mm lens offers a 45mm equivalent focal length (full frame equivalent). This is an ideal “normal” focal length, close to the human field of view, providing viewers with a naturally pleasing perspective.
Tapered Lens Top
An unobtrusive lens top shape allows the front element of the lens to get extremely close to the subject without casting shadows, making it easy to capture more evenly lit macro images with enhanced detail across the entire frame.
Hybrid Image Stabilisation
An advanced Hybrid image stabilisation compensates for camera movement in all 4 axes - up, down, left and right, allowing for slower shutter speeds in low light while still delivering blur free images.
Smooth and Silent Auto Focussing
The lens uses a lead screw-type stepping motor (STM) that helps ensure smooth, fast and precise auto-focusing. The STM also ensures silent operations suitable for close-up video and still macro shooting scenarios where you would not like motor noise to disturb or alert the subject.
For greater accuracy in delicate focusing scenarios, the motor allows manual focusing override via focus ring.
Advanced Optical Design
The lens is made up of 11 elements in 10 groups to provide a very high level of clarity and contrast while minimizing chromatic aberrations, lens flare and ghosting. One UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) lens element and two aspherical lens elements (including one double-sided aspheric lens) work in tandem to help provide sharp images with rich detail.
Compact and Light Weight
The retractable design of the Canon 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM Lens features a compact form factor for easy portability and storage. The small size and weight gives a nice feel and well balanced appearance when mounted on an EOS M series compact mirrorless camera.
