600mm Super Telephoto Focal Length

The Canon EF 600mm f4 mark III is a super telephoto lens designed for full frame cameras. It can also be used on cameras with APS-C size sensors where it provides a 35mm equivalent focal length of 960mm. At 20% lighter than the previous iteration, the lens offers a more balanced feel, making it easier to handle in the field, perfect for keeping mobile when shooting sports or wildlife.

F/4 Aperture

An F/4 aperture offers the flexibility to work in a range of challenging conditions, pulling in a great amount of light so you can still use the faster shutter speeds integral to fast action photography. Along with natural telephoto background compression, it also creates a relatively shallow depth of field for more dramatic looking image results.

Optical Image Stabilisation

Powerful optical image stabilisation offers up to 5-stops of compensation to help counteract camera shake from handling or movement. Even small bumps or movements are especially noticeable on telephoto lenses, so having stabilisation is a true necessity for capturing sharp images handheld.

Ring-Type USM Autofocus Motor

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) powers the 600mm F/4 lens’s autofocus system. Combined with a high-speed CPU, it’s able to provide fast, accurate, and quiet autofocusing that works beautifully when paired with the in-built image stabilisation. For more control over your photos, simply switch into manual mode to fine-tune your focus.

Customisable Electronic Focus Control

A customisable electronic manual focusing ring has 3 sensitivity levels that let you decide how fast and precisely the focus will adjust. This gives you the flexibility to adjust focus characteristics depending on how much or how fast your subjects are moving. Additionally, a focus recall ring allows you to assign two focus pre-sets with a simple twist of the ring to swap between them.

A newly engineered design sees the optics placed further back in the lens barrel to help balance and reduce the overall weight. It consists of 17 elements in 13 groups, with 2 Fluorite elements and 1 Super Ultra-Low Dispersion element to help control chromatic aberrations and distortion for images with contrast and detail, even at the edges of the image.

Anti-Reflective Lens Coatings

Each lens element features a series of advanced coatings, like an Air Sphere Coating that minimises glare and reflections for sharp images with better detail. Also applied is Canon’s Super Spectra Coating (SSC) which maintains excellent colour fidelity and contrast.

9 Aperture Blades for Better Bokeh

A rounded 9-blade aperture creates a more circular looking ‘bokeh’ effect in out of focus areas and highlights of your image. Combined with the compression of a telephoto lens, this results in a smooth, softly blurred background that contrasts beautifully against your in-focus subject while eliminating any distracting background elements.
