* As this camera does not have a built-in focusing motor it is only AF compatible with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses, which are equipped with an autofocus motor. However it will work with other Nikon lenses but in Manual Focus only. This camera will only autofocus with Sigma lenses that have a designation of HSM (Hypersonic Motor) or that state “built-in motor for Nikon”. This camera will only autofocus with Tamron lenses that state “built-in motor for Nikon” or “USD” designation. SDHC Memory Cards and SDXC Memory Cards can be used only in equipment that is compatible with their respective formats. If the computer being used does not support SDXC Memory Cards, a message prompting you to format may appear. (Doing so will cause recorded images to be erased so do not choose to format.) | What are the features and how will they benefit you? | Guide Mode - In-camera guidance is provided by the new Guide mode, which employs an easy-to-use interface that makes it easy for first-time users to select shooting modes to get the results that they want. 14.2 Megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor - the D3100 produces high-resolution images that enable beautiful enlargements as well as being able to crop images aggressively whilst retaining image quality. EXPEED 2 Image Processor - maximizes CMOS sensor performance for clear, lifelike images that exhibit vivid colours, reduced noise and smooth tonal gradations for outstanding photos and movies. Scene Auto Selector - automatically selects the correct Scene Mode that matches the shooting situation and subject. Active D-Lighting - vastly improve details in the shadows and highlights of high-contrast scenes. 11-point AF system - precision high-speed autofocus responds immediately to changes in scene or composition, maintaining tack-sharp focus to capture fleeting expressions and fast-moving sports. 3.0-in. LCD monitor - Image playback and viewing menus is now easier than ever thanks to the 3.0-in., 230k-dot TFT LCD monitor. Picture Control System - Expand creative expression with Picture Control. Six settings — Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait and Landscape — lets you determine the look of photos and full HD movies before you shoot. In-camera Photo and Movie Editing - operations like Red-eye correction, Quick retouch, and Filter effects can be done in-camera, eliminating the need for a PC and enhancing convenience. Features Miniature Effect, Soft Filter, Colour Outline and Perspective Control. You can also extract still images from movies and trim unnecessary frames. Dust Reduction System - This solution includes a special Airflow Control System that redirects dust away from the low-pass filter located in front of the image sensor. Additionally, when powering the camera on or off, the filter automatically vibrates at precise frequencies to release image-degrading dust that may adhere to it. RAW File Format – file format that retains more image information than compressed JPEG and allows greater scope for manipulation of images on your computer with less degradation. You can adjust settings such as exposure, colour balance, levels etc. using software such as the included ViewNX 2 software. |
